Why supplier coverage matters
Sod is sold in different cut sizes and pallet configurations. Instead of assuming one universal pallet size, this calculator keeps required area separate from purchase units. Enter the square feet per pallet, roll or slab from your supplier for a whole-unit estimate.
Formula
purchase area = measured area × (1 + extra %)
units = ceiling(purchase area ÷ supplier coverage)
Example
A 50 ft × 20 ft lawn is 1,000 sq ft. With 5% extra, plan for 1,050 sq ft. If your supplier states 500 sq ft per pallet, the calculator rounds 2.1 pallets up to 3 whole pallets.
Before ordering sod
Measure the install area first, then use the coverage stated by the farm or supplier you are actually buying from. Pallet, roll and slab sizes are not nationally uniform. If supplier coverage is unknown, use the square-foot result as the reliable output and convert to purchase units later.
