This comparison reuses the length/width or measured area and extra percentage from the calculator above. Enter real written offers for two sellers. Different pallet, roll or slab coverage means the same area can require a different whole-unit order. Never compare price per unit alone.
Worked example — fictional numbers, not current market prices
For a 50 × 20 ft lawn with 5% extra, purchase area is 1,050 sq ft. Seller A covers 500 sq ft per pallet at $220, plus $80 delivery: ceiling(1,050/500) = 3 pallets, $740 delivered. Seller B covers 300 sq ft at $165, plus $60 delivery: 4 pallets, $720 delivered. B is $20 lower only if the product, quality and terms are comparable. Neither offer is real; obtain local written quotes.
Ask whether partial pallets are available, when sod was cut, how soon it can be installed, whether tax/handling is included and whether your delivery site is accessible. A lower total does not establish healthier turf or suitability for your climate.

Sod is sold in different cut sizes and pallet configurations. Instead of assuming one universal pallet size, this calculator keeps required area separate from purchase units. Enter the square feet per pallet, roll or slab from your supplier for a whole-unit estimate.
Formula
purchase area = measured area × (1 + extra %)
units = ceiling(purchase area ÷ supplier coverage)
Example
A 50 ft × 20 ft lawn is 1,000 sq ft. With 5% extra, plan for 1,050 sq ft. If your supplier states 500 sq ft per pallet, the calculator rounds 2.1 pallets up to 3 whole pallets.
Before ordering sod
Measure the install area first, then use the coverage stated by the farm or supplier you are actually buying from. Pallet, roll and slab sizes are not nationally uniform. If supplier coverage is unknown, use the square-foot result as the reliable output and convert to purchase units later.

Compare pallet quantities from two suppliers
Keep a measured 1,000 sq ft lawn and an explicit 5% extra area: the purchase target is 1,050 sq ft. If Supplier A quotes 500 sq ft per pallet, ceiling(1,050 ÷ 500) means ordering 3 pallets. If Supplier B offers pallets covering 300 sq ft, the same job needs ceiling(1,050 ÷ 300) = 4 pallets. Those numbers describe hypothetical package coverage, not a recommended local supplier or pallet size.
Compare cost on the total delivered coverage and the supplier's own rate, not the number of pallets alone. Ask about pickup or delivery, freshness, install timing and whether partial pallets are sold. If your supplier sells individual rolls, change the purchase unit and use its stated area per roll rather than assuming a pallet conversion.
