Sod and seed need different assumptions
Sod is primarily a coverage problem. The calculator determines how many square feet you need and only converts that area into whole pallets, rolls or slabs after you enter the coverage stated by your supplier. We do not auto-fill a supposed national pallet size.
Grass seed is an application-rate problem. Different grass species and regional recommendations can use different pounds per 1,000 square feet, so source presets are ranges rather than a single universal rate. You can always replace a preset with the rate on your seed label or local guidance.
Measure first, then choose the source
For either method, measure the actual lawn area as carefully as practical. Extra coverage is intentionally set by you rather than silently added. That keeps the output reproducible and makes it clear which part of the result came from geometry and which part came from a project decision.
