Why the calculators ask for more inputs
Spacing alone cannot infer door and window framing, corners, terminals, gates, slopes, load paths or local construction requirements. Instead of hiding those decisions inside a generic preset, the tools ask you to enter extras or product dimensions explicitly.
This makes the estimate more transparent, but it does not turn it into a structural design. Use project drawings, manufacturer requirements and applicable local rules for the layout itself.
For purchasing, enter the dimensions and repeated layout that match your plan, then treat the result as a quantity check against that plan rather than a replacement for it.
Quantity estimating, not compliance checking
The stud-wall tool estimates regularly spaced studs and plate length. The wood-fence tool estimates repeated posts, rails and infill units after subtracting entered openings. The deck tool estimates only the decking surface, not the substructure. None of these tools sizes structural members, evaluates loads, determines footing depth or verifies a building code.
