Window groups and installation

Window Replacement Cost Calculator

Price groups of windows with different sizes or quoted rates, then include removal, trim and project-wide charges in one visible budget.

Estimate project cost

Window group 1: use one product and installation price for windows with the same quoted scope. Add groups below for different sizes or prices.

Separate removal and trim allowances

These allowances apply to every window across all groups. If a charge applies to only some windows, include it in their group price or put its total in fixed extras. Whole-window counts are used without a material-waste multiplier.

Use rates from your supplier, installer or quote. ProjectCalcWorks does not insert a hidden national price assumption. Blank optional prices contribute zero. Add only charges not already included in another rate. Each money line is rounded to cents before subtotals are added.

Compare window replacement scenarios transparently

Window count alone does not determine the project budget. Product type, size, trim, disposal, access and installation pricing all change the total. Use the per-window product and labor rates that match the actual quote or product line.

Running low, base and high quote scenarios can be more useful than relying on one generic average.

How this estimate works

Enter a whole-window count and product and installation prices for the first group. Add a group for each different quoted size, style or unit price. Each group is calculated separately and the results are added.

Removal and trim allowances apply once per window across all groups. Fixed extras cover project-wide charges such as disposal, delivery, access or permits. If only some windows need special trim or removal, include that amount in their group price or enter its total as a fixed extra.

total = sum of group product and installation costs + total windows × (removal + trim allowance) + fixed extras

Example

Ten windows at $550 each plus $250 installation per window start at $5,500 material and $2,500 labor before extras. Example rates are illustrative only; replace them with supplier or contractor pricing for your project.

For a mixed example, four windows at $500 product plus $200 installation and two larger windows at $800 product plus $300 installation give $3,600 product and $1,400 installation. Adding $30 removal and $50 trim per window plus $100 project extras gives $5,580, or $930 per window across all six. These rates demonstrate the calculation, not local market pricing.

Compare replacement window quotes consistently

Keep the same window count and product scope when comparing scenarios, then change the product rate, labor rate or fixed extras. Frame material, size, glass package, trim, disposal and difficult access can change the real project price even when two quotes cover the same number of windows.

Window replacement cost questions

Should I enter a per-window price?

Yes. Enter the product price per window and, when available, the installation price per window. Put project-wide charges in fixed extras.

What belongs in fixed extras?

Examples include disposal, permit fees, access equipment or project-wide trim work when those items are quoted outside the per-window rate.

Can different window sizes use one rate?

Only when the quote truly uses one blended rate. Otherwise, add groups directly in this calculator. The result combines their actual counts and entered prices without applying a fractional waste allowance to whole windows.

How should I compare two contractor quotes?

Keep the same window groups, glass and frame specifications, disposal, trim and access scope. Recalculate with the second quote's prices, then save only your selected estimate to the Project Budget Workspace. That workspace adds project items rather than treating alternative quotes as separate scenarios.

Select a frame before comparing installation costs

Vinyl, wood, fiberglass and thermally broken metal are not interchangeable simply because two products have the same size. Read the material guide, then compare actual whole-window ratings and quote scope here.
