Kitchen Remodel Visual Design Planner

Pick cabinets, countertop, floor and backsplash looks. The live illustration changes with your choices and helps prepare the itemized quote-based calculator below. It is a conceptual illustration, not a photograph of your home, a scaled kitchen layout or an AI image of exact purchasable products.

1. Measure the room's flooring footprint

2. Choose a visual direction

Hardware finish changes only the decorative pulls and tap in this concept; it does not verify fit, finish durability, or product availability. Finishes, room proportions and appliance locations in the drawing are illustrative. “Keep” means excluded from your replacement checklist; the artwork cannot reproduce your current materials.

Measured room footprint150 sq ft

The preview rounds the visible square footage to two decimals. The cost estimator receives the full calculated area from your entered dimensions.

Next step: estimate actual cabinet, countertop, appliance, trade and permit allowances in the existing kitchen budget calculator. Preview and budget are linked planning stages; a design style does not determine current prices or certify a safe installation.

Photo-Assisted Wall & Floor Finish Preview

Select a photo from your device, outline a visible wall or floor with a few points, then test a finish color while retaining some existing light and shadow. The photo stays inside your browser: no account, upload, tracking endpoint or AI service is used.

This is a manual finish mockup, not a true AI render, a product texture replacement, a scale drawing or evidence that a finish is technically suitable. The tile/plank lines are illustrative only: their scale, perspective and installation pattern are not accurate. Complex shapes, reflections, fixtures and occlusions will not be reconstructed.

Quick-start finish looks

Illustrative combinations only, not real brand colors, products or accurate textures. Choose a look, then outline and apply an area; or use “Update last finish style” to change the last applied area.

3. For a personal photo, tap or click around one visible surface in order (at least three points). The sample room supports instant presets without this step. Numeric fields also work with a keyboard; each point is a percentage of photo width/height.

0 boundary points

The brief lists your chosen visual finishes, questions to answer and quote items to compare. It does not include your photograph, calculate room dimensions or estimate prices. Attach the PNG separately if you want to share it. Choosing a different photo resets applied finishes but keeps these notes; use “Remove photo, finishes & notes” to clear everything in this editor.

Choose your photo or try the sample to begin. No file is transmitted.

Blue dots are editing guides only and are omitted from the downloaded image. To try a new surface type, color, pattern or strength on the most recent area, change the controls and click "Update last finish style" without tracing again. To change its shape, remove that finish and outline it again. Recoloring a photo does not measure the room.

Turn the visual idea into a real material estimate

Use the Kitchen Remodel Cost Calculator with your actual measurements and written supplier or contractor prices. The photo preview cannot determine fixture fit, labor or total installation cost.

Build your own kitchen remodel estimate

Measurements calculate quantities; prices are optional and must come from your own product, supplier, or contractor quotes. Blank cost inputs count as zero, never as an assumed national average.

Material and fixture allowances

Trades and other project costs

A material, trade, or permit quote may already include installation. Keep each charge in only one field to prevent double counting. Contingency is applied to the subtotal once.

Build a kitchen budget from visible cost drivers

Cabinetry, counters, appliances, flooring, electrical, plumbing and labor can move independently. A useful kitchen remodel estimate therefore keeps editable rates and fixed extras visible instead of relying on a single national average.

Use separate scenarios for cosmetic work and larger scope changes rather than mixing them into one unexplained number.

  • Use current supplier or contractor pricing.
  • Keep fixed appliance or permit allowances explicit.
  • Re-run after scope or finish selections change.

From visual concept to a kitchen contractor estimate

The kitchen planner above previews three visual palettes and four finishing decisions. The image is a concept illustration: no physical kitchen is modeled, and neither a palette nor room footprint establishes cabinet lengths, counter quantities or a local remodeling price. Build your concept first, then use the transfer button to place the measured floor area into the calculator underneath. Fill in cabinetry, countertop, appliances, trades and permits from actual comparable quotations. This avoids counting invented price bands as contractor estimates.

Before ordering, check the kitchen remodel planning sequence, the flooring quantity calculator, and the tile calculator. For surfaces around a wet sink or a hot cooking range, choose products and installation systems that meet the relevant requirements; the preview does not check suitability.

Why an itemized kitchen budget is more useful than cost per square foot

Kitchen remodels with similar floor areas can have radically different scopes. Painting and replacing hardware is not the same job as replacing cabinetry, moving plumbing, running new electrical circuits, or installing custom countertops. A single price-per-square-foot estimate disguises those decisions. This estimator instead keeps cabinets, appliances, countertops and flooring separate from plumbing, electrical, installation, removal and permitting allowances.

Start with an actual room measurement for flooring. For all other lines, enter your supplier or contractor quote directly. If a trade quote includes fittings, materials or fixtures, do not add those amounts again under another category. If a project item is not part of your scope, leave its allowance blank.

Worked kitchen remodel example (illustrative figures only)

Consider a kitchen with 150 square feet of floor area. At $4 per square foot of flooring and an extra 10 percent of flooring material, purchasing area is 165 square feet and the flooring allowance is $660. Add $4,000 cabinets, $2,200 countertops and $1,400 appliances. Material and fixture allowances total $8,260.

Add $500 plumbing, $500 electrical and $2,500 installation for $3,500 in trade allowances; add $600 demolition and $200 permits. The subtotal is $12,560. Ten percent contingency adds $1,256, making the illustrative project budget $13,816. These are deliberately example inputs, not verified local price ranges. Replace every number with your own quote.

Compare two remodeling scenarios fairly

For a cosmetic refresh, leave the cabinetry replacement, plumbing relocation or appliance allowances at zero when they are not needed. For a larger renovation, fill in the quoted work you actually plan to undertake. Keep floor area, included items and contingency method consistent if you want a meaningful difference between scenarios. Copy your inputs before resetting the form if you want to compare two versions manually.

The contingency percentage applies once to the subtotal, after all priced items have been added. When no prices have been entered, the tool will not invent a zero-dollar renovation estimate.
