Vinyl Siding Cost Calculator: Cost per Sq Ft
Estimate a siding budget from measured wall area and visible material/labor rates instead of a hidden national price assumption.
Continue your project estimate
Check siding area and cartons →Siding area is only the base of the exterior scope
Vinyl siding projects also use starter strip, corners, J-channel, trim and accessories around windows, doors and roof intersections. Story height, existing-siding removal and wall condition can affect labor independently of net wall area.
Apply the unit rate to the measured siding area and keep removal, sheathing repair, housewrap or specialty trim separate when those items are quoted outside the base installation rate.
- Subtract or handle openings consistently with the estimator you used for quantity.
- Compare the same siding profile, insulation option and trim scope.
- Keep removal and wall-repair allowances explicit when they are uncertain.
How this vinyl siding cost estimate works
Use net siding area after your measurement process, then enter material and labor cost per square foot. Apply a material waste allowance separately and add fixed extras for trim, removal, delivery or other quoted items.
total = adjusted material quantity × material rate + project quantity × labor rate + fixed extras
Example
At 1,800 sq ft, a $4/sq ft material rate and $5/sq ft labor rate would calculate $7,200 material and $9,000 labor before waste and fixed extras. The example rates are not market recommendations.
Vinyl siding cost per square foot
The calculator reports a blended project cost per square foot from the material, labor and fixed-extra values you enter. Keep removal, trim, delivery and other quoted scope items visible so two scenarios are compared on the same basis.
This is a project-specific calculation, not a market-price table. The per-square-foot result changes when you change the rates or fixed extras.
Use local rates instead of hidden national averages
Vinyl profile, insulation backing, trim, wall complexity, removal of old siding and contractor pricing can materially change the project cost. Use actual local rates or a quote.

Check purchased cartons against the installed siding area
Suppose the measured net wall area is 1,800 sq ft. A chosen 10% extra-material allowance produces 1,980 sq ft of planned siding coverage. If the exact selected product's carton covers 200 sq ft, that means ceiling(1,980 ÷ 200) = 10 whole cartons. Another product could have a different carton coverage and require a different box count for the same wall.
Do not assume installation labor is charged on the purchased 2,000 sq ft of packaged material: the installer may quote the measured wall area, a project-wide fixed amount or an installed per-carton rate. Keep corner posts, starter strips, J-channel, soffit, fascia, removal and trim outside the panel quantity unless the quote explicitly includes them. Use the Siding Calculator to confirm wall measurements and selected product coverage.
